VOB vs Athletics fight for runner-up spot is hotting up

THE long-awaited double-header showdowns between VOB and Athlone Athletics developed into contrasting tussles at the Chukker Road sportsfield in Kenwyn on Sunday.VOB scored a runaway 21-12 win in an error-riddled second match, after Athletics achieved a 4-0 shut out, thanks to their near-perfect defensive display earlier on.

The results leave Athletics with 54 log points and VOB with 52 points, while leaders Bellville Tygers are on 60 points, after 34 matches.

Other scores: Crusaders 11, Thistle 8; and Thistle 5, Crusaders 1. Bellville Tygers beat Blaauwberg Cardinals 12-3 and 15-3. The Durbanville vs Battswood and Bothasig vs Westridge Yankees matches were cancelled because of rain at the weekend.
