An “extreme swim” race between Robben Island and Bloubergstrand with 82 entrants was postponed on Friday due to heavy ocean swells.
The Cadiz Vista Nova Freedom Swim was rescheduled to Saturday at 10.15am, if conditions improved.
A cold front over the Cape Peninsula had brought heavy rain and big swells and difficult swimming conditions, said Robert Thompson, of the race sponsor the Cadiz Financial Strategy Group.
On standby are 66 solo swimmers and four relay teams of four swimmers each.
The route between Robben Island and the mainland is regarded as one of the world’s most challenging swims – because of icy water, strong currents and sharks.
