By midday tempers flared and hooters blared as traffic across the city backed up at out-of-order traffic lights.
Shoppers streamed out of shops and many stores and service centres were forced to close their doors for most of the morning.
A city radio station was inundated with calls from disgruntled residents who were struggling to follow the incorrect loadshedding charts published by Eskom on Thursday.
Hospitals were also affected. According to Miranda Anthony of the Department of Health’s communications department, Groote Schuur, JF Jooste and Red Cross Children’s hospitals were affected.
