Construction on the R300, rated as the city’s most dangerous freeway and set to be upgraded at a cost of R600-million, is expected to start at the beginning of July. The multimillion rand upgrade is being conducted by the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral).
The R300 is notorious for its high accident rate and crime-related incidents, including robbery of motorists and stone throwing.
If approved, the six-lane tolled ring road will encircle Cape Town from Bloubergstrand in the north, via the R300 through the Cape Flats to Muizenberg and the Westlake interchange.
